Young Superstars #9 - Joe Magrane

I think Joe Magrane is one of those "what if?" cases.

In 1987 he was third in NL Rookie of the Year voting, and posted a 9-7 record with a 3.54 ERA. The next year, despite having a losing record, he put up a 2.18 ERA in 24 starts. But in 1989, he really came into his own going 18-9/2.91 in over 234 innings of work. That includes nine complete games and three shutouts.

Things started going wrong in 1990 due to an elbow injury. His 1990 record was 10-17, but he missed the entire '91 season and pitched in only five games in '92.

What if? What if he hadn't hurt his elbow and kept putting up numbers like he did in '89? I guess we'll never know.

This is another card where the background fans are so blurry they looks like abstract art.
