By the time this card was printed in 1988, Dion James had in the Major Leagues since 1983 (though he didn't play much in 85 or at all in 86) and had established himself as a pretty good player. He had a career year in Atlanta in 1987, but began a decline in 1988.
He is best remembered for killing a bird in flight with a batted ball in 1987. He was given a double.
After playing the 1994 season in Japan, James finished his career in New York where he won a World Series ring with the Yankees (though he played in only six games).
